One hell of an outlay but I hope it’ll be worth it.

DD2 Lite is now on order and should be with me within the week.

Time to sell a kidney or two…

Removal of old loom

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

Spent a few hours today removing the old loom. My loom is in two clear parts, a car based loom and the bike OEM loom that’s been stitched (badly) into the car loom.

I removed both today so that I can wire the car from scratch. It’s not strictly needed but it’ll look neater, look more OEM and will probably (I hope) be far more logical!!

The new Honda Fireblade loom  I have isn’t an exact match, it’s from a year newer bike (1998 not 1997) and has an immobiliser built in (additional pink wire from ECU) I hope to bypass this and still use the loom anyway. My original loom and 1997 UK Bikes don’t have an immobiliser.

There’s one burnt out spade terminal in one connector. I intend to remove this from the block and replace it with a connection from my old loom.

Photos of loom completely removed from car.

Loom progress

Monday, February 16th, 2009

Tidied the loom again today and added flexible conduit to tidy it right up. Tricky to know exactly where to place it without the body on, so have left loose for now.

Loom looks a lot better - not quite as good as I hoped but once it can be routed around the car I think it’ll improve.

More bits, more money!

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

Flexible conduit in two sizes (7mm i/d and 16mm i/d) has arrived. Bought on EBay for £13.60 for 10 metres of each.

I’ve bought it to tidy up the looms in the Fury. Now I’ve removed all the extra and redundant cables they need a tidy and pratical housing. The 7mm will hold most cables but 16mm is for the beefier looms and cables (headlights, fan etc..)

Also arrived today - one mini pipe bender. Again bought on EBay for £3.89 (plus postage) I’ve bought it to re-do my brake lines. The rear lines on the Fury take a hideous route, it’s bent by hand (and shows) and makes the car look a lot more untidy. I’ll create a new path for the lines too and tidy this right up.

Sorting the loom

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

The Fury loom is a mess. After the engine change the old loom (old Ford engine) was left in place and new cables added for the bike engine. Parts of the loom were reused, others just folded up and taped over.

I’ve now removed half a bin full of insulation tape (sadly not loom tape) and countless metres of cable. Obviously the car won’t ever start again now but at least it’ll look much neater! :)

I’ve bought some flexible conduit to tidy the loom right up. I’ve removed the rear and front looms (lights, fan, horn and rear lights, sides, brakes, fuel sender and fog) and will re-do those from scratch. The rear wiring loom was a disgrace. Many cables doubled up, dodgy soldered and exposed joins - Amazed it actually worked at all.

The front loom didn’t work quite as it should (headlights had to be modified to pass the MOT) but I hope to fix this too with the new loom.
